5 More Washes!
Well I can’t really judge how many it has been, life has been keeping me busy but I have stuck to the Baking Soda / ACV routine. I tried to play a bit with the mixture and added some essential oils because my hair felt really dry like I have been describing. It was mentioned online to try and add these oils. I think I messed it up though and added WAY too much. My hair was extra greasy and weird for about 4 days going into Residency 3. I fixed it by wearing a hat for a while. I am not going to give up though! Packing was difficult this Res because I can’t take liquid on the plane and 3 oz is not enough to wash with. I made up for this by packing the ACV in the 3oz container I had on hand for traveling and packing some baking soda in a small ziploc container with a measuring spoon. This worked well and I didn’t get stopped at security for an unmarked container full of white powder (HA!). I was able to take my ingredients along with my empty reused shampoo bottles and just make the solution at my friend Austina’s house (who I am staying with). I finally got rid of the oily-ness by not using the vinegar rinse a couple of times and I hope to try again by adding less oil this week. Cross my fingers it works!
Hair is definitely getting cleaner. But still has the weird texture. I hope it goes away soon. Has it been a month? I might have to try adding other ingredients.
Had 2 -3 washes since the last update. My hair still has that weird “sticky” feeling. Maybe it’ still transitioning….
Not bad after 2 more washes.
2nd wash, things are a little weird
I don’t have a picture for the second washing, sorry! But I can report that I think I am going through the “transition phase” that all the websites talked about. After wash #2, my hair feels weird. I can’t really describe it. It’s not quite greasy or dry but it feels kinda “sticky” as in not smooth. It doesn’t look bad, but the texture is odd. Other than that, it has a kind of weird smell too, not a bad smell, but not a flowery “shampoo smell” either, it’s kind of earthy I guess. I may try and incorporate some scented oils into the next wash to eliminate the odd earthy smell. Come to think of it, my hair probably just smells like hair. I don’t know if I have ever smelled non-shampooed hair. I’m a freaking out a little, but I will power through the transition to see what it brings!
Photos
I need to find a better way to take photos so you can actually see my hair. It’s hard to take pics of myself when I am alone. I need an assistant!
First try! My hair dried a lot faster than normal which was nice. My scalp is still itchy (this is typical). Otherwise it’s not so bad. Nice and wavy.
My old shampoo’s ingredients. I can’t pronounce most of these.
